Impasse-Driven Reasoning in Proof Planning
نویسندگان
چکیده
In a problem solving process, a step may not result in the expected progress or may not be applicable as expected. Hence, knowledge how to overcome and react to impasses and other failures is an important ingredient of successful mathematical problem solving. To employ such knowledge in a proving system requires a variety of behaviors and a flexible control. Multi-strategy proof planning is a knowledge-based theorem proving approach that provides a variety of strategies and knowledgebased guidance for search at different levels. This paper introduces reasoning about impasses as a natural ingredient of meta-reasoning at a strategic level and illustrates the use of knowledge about failure handling in the proof planner Multi.

Can Your Architecture Do This? A Proposal for Impasse-Driven Asynchronous Memory Retrieval and Integration
We propose an impasse-driven method for generating memory retrieval requests and integrating their contents dynamically and asynchronously into the current reasoning context of an agent. This method extends our previous theory of agent architecture, called experience-based agency (Ram & Francis 1996) by proposing a general method that can replace and augment task-specific mechanisms for generat...

متن کاملAn Alternative Stability Proof for Direct Adaptive Function Approximation Techniques Based Control of Robot Manipulators
This short note points out an improvement on the robust stability analysis for electrically driven robots given in the paper. In the paper, the author presents a FAT-based direct adaptive control scheme for electrically driven robots in presence of nonlinearities associated with actuator input constraints. However, he offers not suitable stability analysis for the closed-loop system. In other w...
متن کاملGoal-driven Reasoning in First-order Logic
A complete, subformula-preserving proof system for goal-driven reasoning in first-order logic is presented. The proof system is a transition system and its proofs are (linear and local) computations in the transistion system. Thus the proof system fits into a standard framework for modeling problem-solving in cognitive psychology. §
